Date

Hi Guys!

We’re so excited for the start of the holiday season, that’s already started off with a bang.  Sales on holiday decor are at a record high ALREADY, and it’s not even Halloween yet!  That’s why we’re giving you all a head start and sharing with you what we’re seeing as the latest trends for 2021 holiday decor.

This year, we’re seeing a more simplistic approach to holiday decor.  There is  a huge shift to a more subtle and home made, natural looking type of style.  Simple, bare fresh green garlands and sparser looking trees are among the latest trends.  Stoneware, ceramics, and natural looking wood tones are also in high demand.  Even knits are being given a facelift this holiday season.  Keep reading to see our full list of hottest trends with shoppable links for you to purchase for this holiday season!  Please note, the following images contain links to actual products to which you can purchase directly.  These products may contain affiliate links, meaning DEI may gain a small commission on all sales at no additional cost to you!

1. Ceramics

In general, you may be seeing a rise in ceramics and pottery across the interior design world.  From vases, lamps, and more, this idea of hand crafted pottery is very popular right now.  So it’s no wonder why this trend is being used in this year’s Holiday Decor push.  Minimalistic and monochromatic neutral colored Christmas Villages are a huge trend this year.  We’re seeing this trend among many popular retailers such as Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Target, West Elm, etc.  We love how they possess both a modern look and a hand-crafted feel simultaneously.  Table top trees are also getting a ceramics makeover this year.  This year’s menorah’s are also  being given the modern ceramic approach as well.

For greenery this year, we are seeing a big push away from heavy, overly decorated.  Large ribbons, bows, bright colors and lights are becoming outdated, and there’s a huge shift this year to a more simplistic and natural look.  This year, the design approach is becoming “less is more,” using real or realistic looking garlands, trees, and wreaths.  Simple tied velvet ribbon is replacing oversized and elaborate bows.  Sparser looking asymmetrical shaped trees are also trending, which reminds of a more natural looking tree.  Adding sparse branches to ceramic vases is also an easy way to achieve the look this season!

Along with using more realistic looking greenery is the use of other natural items like wood, wool, sherpa and sheepskin, pampas grass, and this year especially, capiz shells.  We saw wooden decor items like beaded garland and mantle decor make a big debut last year, and this year, that trend continues strong this year.  Capiz shells are the latest holiday trend for Holiday 2021, which we are seeing strong influences in ornaments and tree topper decorations.  Paper, felt, and rope details are also making an appearance this year in again table top / mantle decor and ornaments.

***5. Velvet

Velvet plays a major role typically most years for the holiday season, but this year, it’s being used in a more subtle yet substantial way.   Thin velvet ribbon is now replacing larger and thicker styles from past years.  We’re seeing it strung haphazardly and loosely tied onto garlands and wreaths in a thoughtful yet free spirited now.  We’re also seeing flocked velvet ornaments in high demand, and with the beautiful array of colors, we can understand why!  Studio McGee’s line with Target had a set that sold out in record timing, only a lucky few were able to grab!  We’re also seeing in stores spools of velvet ribbon being used as decorative pieces, to be used as tabletop and/or mantle decor.

Woven knits are usually a season staple, and this year is no different.  However, again, the idea of a handcrafted / homemade look is the appeal for this season and is being reflected in this seasons knits.  Popular knitted items for 2021 are being shown with a looser, less rigid lines in everything from stockings, tree skirts, to garlands and throw pillows.
